Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the vanilla cream filling:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the glaze (optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

For the dough:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
  2. In a separate microwave-safe bowl, heat the milk until warm (about 110°F or 45°C). Stir in the melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

For the vanilla cream filling:

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

Assembling the rolls:

  1. Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle, about 12×16 inches.
  2. Spread the vanilla cream filling evenly over the dough.
  3. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll up the dough into a log.
  4. Using a sharp knife, cut the log into about 12 equal slices.
  5. Place the slices in a greased baking dish, leaving some space between each roll.
  6. Cover the rolls with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until they have doubled in size.
  7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Allow the rolls to cool slightly before glazing (if desired) or serving.

For the glaze (optional):

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls.
