With its roots in the American philosophy of using few ingredients to their most potential, this dish is the ideal mix to bring the excitement of the ballpark into your own kitchen. If you’re searching for a simple, one-dish dinner to fulfill your comfort food demands on game nights or at informal family gatherings, this is a great option.

Side dishes that enhance the savory and rich tastes of this substantial casserole are a must-have. To lighten it up a bit, serve it with a side of crunchy coleslaw, or for texture, a side of fresh green salad. To round up a heartier dinner, try serving it with some cornbread or roasted veggies.

What You Need:

Slice six hot dogs into half-inch slices.

six hot dog buns, shredded

Chili with beans, one 15-ounce can

1/2 chopped onion

two cups of cheddar cheese, shredded

mustard, measuring one teaspoon

One teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce

one-fourth of a teaspoon of pepper

1/4 cup of olive oil

1:1 liquid (water)

What to do

Start by getting your oven ready at 375°F, or 190°C. Apply the tablespoon of olive oil to a baking dish that is 9×13 inches.

2. Combine the shredded hot dog buns, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and black pepper in a large basin.

Third, on the bottom of the baking dish that you just prepared, sprinkle half of the bun mixture.

4. Distribute the chopped onion and sliced hot dogs evenly over the bottom of the sandwich.

5. After layering the hot dogs, pour the chili with beans on top and spread it out so it covers the dogs.

Sixth, top the chili with shredded cheese, measuring one cup.

The seventh step is to stack the remaining bun mixture over the cheese, followed by the last cup of cheese.

8. To prevent the casserole from drying out during baking, gently pour one cup of water over it all.

9. Place aluminum foil over the dish and bake for half an hour.

10. Take the foil off and continue baking for another 10 minutes, or until the surface is slightly browned and bubbling.

11–Set the dish by letting it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Tips and Variations

Make this dish your own by adding whatever you like! To make it hotter, top the chili with additional spicy sauce or chopped jalapenos. Think about using beef chili or slicing some precooked sausage if you want it meatier. If you’re trying to avoid eating meat, you may use vegetarian chili and swap out the hot dogs for something else. To cut through the heat, try topping with sour cream before the last layer of cheese. The creamy texture will complement the cheese well.
